Sensory Science Exhibition featuring an interactive installation Pick Your Own Brain!, Fragilis MS, 2024 and Fragilis TBI, 2024

Stepanka was invited to take part in a collaboration with PhD students from the University of Cambridge and Dr Erika Taberi - legally blind artist from Monash Sensory Science in Melbourne, Australia. The aim of the project was to translate complex life science concepts into multi-sensory art. The initiative aimed to promote inclusion and communicate the role of the immune system in central nervous system (CNS) health and disease, focusing on two specific inflammation models: traumatic brain injury (TBI) and multiple (MS). The project involved a series of online co-creation workshops with researchers from ensuring a comprehensive approach to developing the Sensory Science exhibition.

Both Friagilis MS, 2024 and Fragilis TBI, 2024 were artworks intended to be explored by touch. The nature of materials used in these pieces such as plaster and glass enhanced the idea of fragility of CNS and the effects of multiple sclerosis and traumatic brain injury that can have on the human brain.
